Biden Vows Global Force Posture Review, Freezes Troop Withdrawal from Germany

U.S. President Joe Biden says the U.S. will conduct a review of its global force posture and that he would freeze the Trump-ordered withdrawal of U.S. troops from Germany.

Biden made the remarks on Thursday in his first foreign policy address at the State Department, declaring that “America is back.”

Biden said that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will lead the global force review, which will make sure the U.S.’ posture is consistent with the country’s national security and diplomatic priorities.

He also addressed recent global developments in Russia, Myanmar and Yemen, as well as challenges brought on by China and climate change.

Biden said over the past two weeks, he has been placing calls to America’s closest allies including Britain, Germany, France, Japan and South Korea to reform the habit of cooperation and rebuild the muscle of democratic alliances that have atrophied over the last four years of neglect and abuse.
